Whatever you think of the current controversies surrounding police actions, it's only because people are now able to videotape encounters with the cops that we can see evidence of what even the most ardent police supporters have to admit: Some cops can be real vindictive ballbusters, or worse. It's not even necessarily a racial thing. We've all dealt with a hard-ass cop now and then. Sometimes, it's as simple as this cop telling a driver that he was pulled over because he made eye contact with the cop as he passed. Eye contact? Is that now illegal? But that's a minor dick move compared to the San Antonio cops who responded to a domestic violence situation and, when they had trouble subduing a guy, shot him while his hands were up. This is chronicled on video shot from a distance, and the unedited video pretty clearly shows that the guy was standing on the lawn, put his hands up, and THEN the cops shot him dead. That the guy may have been violent and that Tasing hadn't worked don't excuse them shooting him. Most cops are good, but some are... this. (WDTN-TV/Dayton; KSAT-TV/San Antonio)
