This Might Explain Why They Are Where They Are
-
No good deed goes unpunished, and so a free lunch program one San Pedro church has been offering to the homeless for decades is now in trouble, having briefly suspended operation in an attempt to try to come up with ways to curb the recipients' aggressive behavior. What does "aggressive behavior" mean? How about cursing out the volunteers when told they have to leave after eating? How about throwing the sandwiches back at the volunteers when they don't want a particular sandwich? How about getting violent when they can't have multiple lunches? How about taking items and trying to sell them to local markets, or saying they're "taking one for a child" and then trying to sell it on the street? It's gotten so bad that markets who had been donating food have stopped. And they're now wondering whether giving homeless people free food without any requirement to go into a job training or rehab program is encouraging the homeless to stay homeless.
