They say it's primarily a nod towards transgender students that the University of New Hampshire is allowing students to pick their first names on their IDs, and maybe it is, but I think that it's something that should have been the case all along, not just for transgender students but for anyone who's known by a name that isn't on their legal ID. After all, the college ID is not a legal ID -- you can't use it to drive or board a plane or anything official. Who cares about enforcing birth certificate or legal names on a college ID? This should be the case everywhere, by default. (Union Leader, Manchester)
