The drug treats parasitic infection. It's been around for 62 years. A new company headed by a former hedge fund manager bought the drug. The price went from $13.50 to $750 per tablet. Why? Because they could. This is what's happening to some older drugs, again, because they can. Several drugs' prices have skyrocketed. The investors say that these drugs are rarely used and so they have to charge more to remain economically viable. Ultimately, the cost is going to be passed along to someone who will pay the freight: you, through insurance premium increases. (New York Times)
