Actually, That Amount Seems Low, Considering

A woman who was walking through a Manhattan Beach park when she was blinded by a flying golf disc -- we're not allowed to call them Frisbees anymore since it's a trademark and not all of those discs are Frisbees, right? -- has been awarded $3 million from the city in a settlement. You might think that's too much money, but she really did lose her vision in one eye after four long surgeries trying to restore it. And it's not like she got hit by a flimsy disc like your station gives away at car dealer remotes; this one is big, sharp, and heavy. And a year after this woman's injury, a 6-year-old playing in the same park was hit by a disc and suffered a life-threatening injury. Only after that did the city decide, you know, maybe we ought not to have disc golf in a park where other people walk and sit and play. So, yeah, this time, maybe the personal injury lawyers have the right idea. (Daily Breeze, Torrance)
