Rent A Nearby Empty Big-Box Store, Dress It Up, Problem Solved
-
In Naperville, a suburb of Chicago, a fifth-grader has started a petition to get a homeowners' association to reconsider its decision that cancelled an elaborate Halloween display held at one house in the neighborhood every year. The display has been going for 18 years and included 2,000 pieces, a light show, music, and 8,000 people showing up to see it every year. Now, I'm usually not a fan of homeowners' associations (power-mad, sticklers for rules they made up and should bend when common sense should prevail) and I'm all for things that make kids happy, but it's like those Christmas displays you can see from space: You wouldn't want to live next to one. It's totally inconsiderate of your neighbors and an ego trip to make your home into a spectacle. When the noise and traffic become a nuisance, you really need to reconsider what you're doing.
