A college psychology professor in Sudbury, Ontario has been removed from teaching because he asked students to sign a release agreeing that it's okay for him to swear in class and say off-color things (including homophobic slurs, unfortunately) at times. He said the class was rated R, and that students could opt out and take another, non-sweary course. He'd done that for years. And what's wrong with that? University students are, ostensibly, adults, and he WAS asking for permission, with the option to say no. And he says it was used as a technique, to raise emotion to show how they affect the brain's rational process. The school says that it conflicts with its "safe and respectful workplace and learning environment" policy. But is that policy interfering with the teaching process? (CBC)
