I hesitate to say anything that might look at the deaths of teenagers as positive, so maybe we shouldn't make the "thinning the herd" joke about the growing number of cases of young people dying from drinking "Dewshine": Mountain Dew mixed with racing fuel. Now, you and I would hear about that mixture and instantly recognize that it's lethal, because methanol is toxic, but kids hear that it's a form of alcohol and think, hey, we can get a buzz from that. "Buzz" is not the correct term. You have to be pretty stupid to think that drinking racing fuel is a good idea, but teens are in many ways pretty stupid even when they're destined to not be stupid as adults. Maybe they're confusing methanol, which is toxic, with ethanol, which is in your regular alcoholic beverages. Maybe the "meth" part of methanol is attractive to them. But, again, teens do stupid things because they're teens. It sucks when they die from it. (The Tennessean)
