The French, they do things differently. While we English-speakers have a language with spelling that just sort of happened, and changes that just kind of occur informally, they have an official board that decrees new spellings for words, and there's been resistance to a passel of changes they've proposed, so much so that they've now said that, okay, either spelling, new or old, is acceptable. The biggest controversy is getting rid of the circumflex, that little carat over letters that means... well, I don't know what it means, but it's now, apparently, optional. What English spellings would you change if you had the power? (BBC)
