I Bet Half The Chicago Civil Staff's Been Dead For Years And Still Getting Paid
-
In case you missed it, here's the story of the Spanish civil servant who surprised everyone when he was made eligible for an award for 20 years of service, considering that he hasn't shown up for work in at least six years. The story goes that he was assigned to work for a government water agency, and he claims he was bullied and sent there to get him "out of the way"; he says there was no work to be done, so he didn't bother going. The boss thought the local authorities were his supervisors. The local authorities thought the boss was his supervisor. Nobody asked questions. Now, he's been fined, he "retired," and he denies he did anything wrong. But for a few years there, he had the best job ever. (BBC)
