Hartford Has 'Brass Bonanza' All Cued Up If They're Interested

The moment the Islanders announced the move to Brooklyn, I figured that it wasn't going to work, long-term, for several reasons: The fan base is on the Island and the hike in to Brooklyn on a weeknight was going to be unappealing, the arena has way too many obstructed-view seats, and Brooklyn is solidly Rangers territory on the "Potvin Sucks!" level. So this week's news that the team and arena are talking over an early termination of the lease isn't a shock. In fact, apparently, the lease has an out clause. But that leaves a bigger question: If the plans go ahead to renovate the old Nassau Coliseum to reduce the size below NHL minimum capacity, where are the Islanders going to play if not at Barclays Center? Is this why the league is going slow in awarding expansion franchises to Vegas and Quebec City? Might the Islanders look at those cities, or Markham or Hamilton or Kansas City? (New York Post)
