It's Tough When You Realize That Nobody's On Your Side
-
This article attempts to explain one of the issues that has led to the rise of Trump and Sanders against the establishment candidates: it's about how workers in industrial America are losing jobs due to global trade concerns, with companies feeling that the only way they can compete is to move jobs to lower-cost countries. Middle-class jobs are dwindling, and you get scenes like the now-famous announcement to Carrier employees in Indiana that their jobs would be moving to Mexico without them. This does not make either Trump or Sanders right in their positions, and, surely, neither one will have any real power to do anything about any of this, but the anger the "little guy" is feeling towards business-as-usual explains why they'd latch onto the first politician that rails against the status quo, even if they don't have any answers of their own.
