Like Putting A Spoiler On A '52 Cadillac Series 62

Okay, this made me angry. There is -- was, depending on how you see it -- a great old-time drug store/soda fountain, Watson's, in downtown Orange, CA, something out of the '50s or even '40s, a place where you could still get a grilled cheese and a milkshake in a glass with a metal sidecar cup the way it was 50 or 60 years ago. It was so authentic -- unchanged in decades -- that it was used in "That Thing You Do," and it was a stop for celebrities and politicians forever. A few years ago, someone bought it and closed the drug store part, but the rest was still the old counter and menu. But we can't have that, so now it's been redone with modern/retro decor and a haute menu with the old stuff now given a modern twist. I HATE THIS. I want the old Watson's. I understand that after the last changes, they probably needed to do something to revive business, but the joy of the old fashioned soda fountain luncheonette is what I wanted from the place, not... well, I WILL probably try it, but, still, do you hate it when a classic old standby gets an unfamiliar "update"?
