You Could Choose To Fly Out Of JFK, But Just Getting There Is Costly And Painful

You wanna know why all the consolidation among airlines is a bad thing? It comes down to the gates, and how some hub airports are so dominated by one airline that... well, look at Newark, where United has a tight grip on most of the gates, has tried to swap for even more, and that's led to higher airfares and fewer options than other airports. Down the road, American (through its acquisition of US Airways) has a hammerlock on Philadelphia International. The Twin Cities are Delta all the way (no, Sun Country isn't that often an option), and so is Atlanta. This can't be good for consumers. Should the FAA step in if airports sell all their gates to one airline? Because that means no competition. (Bergen Record)
