What's A Little Blatant Favoritism Among Friends?
-
This story's gotten blood boiling before, and here we go again: A guy who was involved in a gang murder is getting off after less than six years in prison, purely due to the fact that his father was a prominent politician and dad got him a commutation from Arnold Schwarzenegger, who did it on the way out as Governor and made zero attempt to hide that he was doing a political favor for a friend. So someone was murdered and the killers were allowed to plead out to a lesser charge, and then one of the two killers got a reduction in sentence because Daddy was the former Assembly Speaker. And the Speaker's family had the balls to release a statement that mostly focuses on their son's situation and barely acknowledges that he was involved in a killing. When people get enraged over the imbalance in society between the connected and the rest of us, this story should be Exhibit A. (Los Angeles Times)
