If Things Don't HAVE To Change, Maybe They Shouldn't
-
Over the past couple of years, the owners of the Boston Red Sox' top farm team, the Pawtucket Red Sox, have tried in vain to move the team down the road to a proposed new ballpark in the bigger city of Providence. And the fans have been dead set against the move. Now that they're still in Pawtucket, they're finally getting around to asking those fans what they want, and it appears that what those fans want is for things to stay the same, remaining at old McCoy Stadium -- okay, they WOULD like bigger bathrooms -- and maintaining the old-timey feel, because that's why they go to the games. Otherwise, they'll stay home and watch the major league club on NESN. But is that enough? Can a team forego the profits from a new park with more corporate support and luxury boxes and other revenue streams to keep the 4,000 or so old-line fans happy? (Providence Journal)
