Oh, Herman's World Of Sporting Goods, How I Miss You So
-
We've been talking about the demise of Sports Authority and Sports Chalet and here's an analysis that comes to the conclusion that sporting goods stores are dead, killed by online shopping, brand-specific stores like Nike's, and the ineptitude of the retailers in keeping current. Not just the stores that are already dying, but they're even pessimistic, long-term, about the stores that do well, like Dick's. And you could extrapolate this to cover other kinds of retail, like department stores (Macy's and Nordstrom are faltering, Sears and JC Penney are famously troubled). Is brick-and-mortar retail on the way out, even with recent mild rebounds (a dead cat bounce, maybe)? (Racked)
