Used to be, if you wanted to know if there was an earthquake, you'd check Caltech or the USGS. Now, like on Friday morning, you go to Twitter. We had a 5.2 here, and I slept through it, but the moment I checked Twitter upon awakening, I knew what had happened. And as this article indicates, the moment you DO feel a quake, your first impulse is to tweet it out ASAP, like you want to be the first with the news. It's the case with most news now.
