Our Way Or The Highway?

Imagine denying immigrants citizenship because they're insufficiently assimilated. What would the outcry be if America used that as a yardstick? But that's exactly what they do in Switzerland, where two teen Muslim girls have been denied citizenship because they refused to swim with boys in school due to their religious beliefs, and since that's a requirement for Swiss schools, they're out. Another family got rejected because they wore sweatpants around town and didn't greet passers-by with sufficient gusto. Now, in America, assimilation was once the goal, the "melting pot" of immigration in the 19th and 20th centuries, but that got replaced by multiculturalism in the latter part of the last century. And it's hard, and maybe even distasteful, to force people to go against their religious beliefs. What course should your country take? (USA Today)
