Tell Them You're Taking Your Business Elsewhere. They Know You're Bluffing
-
You probably know this already, but in case you ever find yourself on permanent hold with a customer service line, or end up in a hopeless back-and-forth with an uncomprehending overseas CSR reading out of a manual, the reason tech support is mostly awful is that it costs money to do it right and most companies prefer to give you bad service because it's cheaper and because they're gambling that you won't take your business elsewhere. Keeping you on hold, or not getting it right, is a tactic. Companies that do GOOD service are usually a) more expensive (Apple) and b) rare. And there's little you can do about it. Awesome.
