Here are educators trying to make the argument against issuing failing grades in schools. It's all about the schools examining WHY kids are failing and blaming the curriculum or the teachers or society, I don't know. All I know is that we've had the old grading system for over a century and it hasn't been a problem until now, when nobody wants to admit that some kids are better in academia than others. I'd say that the bigger need than a new grading system is for high-quality vocational training for kids who aren't going to go on to college, and a societal refocusing that stops making skilled manual labor some kind of lower class thing, but that's Mike Rowe's specialty.
