It's not unusual for a trademark holder to say that non-licensees can't use a name or logo, but the IOC has gone further, banning most brands from saying "Olympics" or "Rio" anywhere, including social media. I get that companies who pay to be exclusive brands for the event want to keep others from glomming on, but "Rio"? That's a city name. And it's ridiculous in that when someone says "The Games" or "The Quadrennial Waste of Money," you know what they mean, just like all those promotions that say "The Big Game" are obviously referring to the Super Bowl.
