You'll Have Plenty Of Time To Think About What You May Have Done

Here's the sad, sad story of inmates in solitary confinement and the psychological toll it takes, and I'd chalk this up to the usual bleeding-heart news media attitude except that these people are in solitary not in prison but in jail, including some who are just being held before trial for years -- one guy interviewed was in solitary and allowed out to exercise only once a week, and he was in for three years before robbery charges were dropped. Some probably deserve or need to be separated from society, but others... not so clear. And the separation can be truly damaging. (Los Angeles Times)
