He Can Still Put Up Some Stiff Opposition (rimshot)
-
In other election news, Lindström, MN city councilman Joe Wishy won re-election Tuesday, despite the fact that he was dead at the time. Yes, it's one of those situations in which a candidate died too close to the election to be removed from the ballot. Ol' Joe passed away September 30th of cancer. He finished second of six candidates, enough to win re-election (the top two win). The assumption is that voters wanted to honor him -- they all knew he was dead, because he was one of those guys who knew everyone in town (he was a car wash attendant, and talked to everyone there about politics). They'll be holding a special election in January. And one more thing: I was totally unaware that there was a town in America the name of which is spelled with an umlaut. It's known as "America's Little Sweden." I think I have to drive over there next time I'm in the Twin Cities. (Minneapolis Star Tribune)
