The New Opiate Of The Masses

A Pew poll shows the majority of Americans don't think Trump's wall is a good idea. His core supporters do, of course, but most people aren't pro-wall and don't want to send student children of illegal immigrants "back where they came from." It's a measure of the intensity of the anti-immigrant sentiment among the core Trump voters, though, that the administration considers a wall a priority and is willing to risk public revulsion by spending taxpayer money on it to get it done. Here's one other thing they never mention: THERE ALREADY IS A WALL. I live about 100 miles from the border and I've driven along the border from Arizona to the ocean, and there's an unbroken wall all the way across. You CAN'T cross there without great difficulty. Yet people get across, which means that the wall is pointless. They can dig tunnels, they can hide in trucks, they can fly or drive or bus here legally and just overstay their legal time. The wall is a very expensive, very aggressive, very profoundly useless symbol. (NJ Advance Media/NJ.com)
