In The Blue Seats At The Garden, One Last Plaintive 'Potvin Sucks' Fades Into The Ether
-
So the word is out that the New York Islanders are pretty much going to be evicted from Barclays Center after next season, which isn't THAT surprising since a) attendance is terrible, b) the lease has an out for the arena at that time, c) the landlord -- the Nets -- isn't projecting making any money on the lease after that point, and d) the arena is absolutely awful for hockey -- to fit an NHL rink, the ice has to be off-center and a large number of seats are obstructed-view. Okay, then, here's the interesting part: Nassau Coliseum was remodeled but it seats only 13,000 now, too few for the NHL. There's no other alternative arena in the region unless they share the Garden with the Rangers or the Rock with the Devils, and that won't happen. So... Quebec City? Hartford? Seattle? Kansas City? Hamilton? Houston? London? Who else has an arena ready? (New York Post)
