Did you vote in favor of a police state? If you voted Trump, you may have done just that whether you wanted it or not. Certainly, taking the restrictions off ICE agents has them emboldened to round up whoever they want, for little or no reason, and even if you wanted immigration laws better enforced, you should be concerned that there are some meathead agents whose grasp of decency and even legality is tenuous. But that's also a problem with customs agents, who are taking the Trump Muslim ban, even after it was stayed, and using it as justification to stop and try to deport people at random. You saw it with Muhammad Ali Jr., detained even though he is a Philadelphia native and is the son of arguably the most internationally famous and beloved human of the past century. And now it's not even just Muslims: A renowned scholar on the Holocaust from France was detained and nearly deported when he tried to come into the U.S. for a speaking engagement. This happened. It's inexcusable, and it's what our government wants to happen. This isn't right. (New York Times; Washington Post)
