It's One Thing To Propose It. It's Another Thing When It Stands A Chance Of Happening

I wonder how many people are alarmed, really, about the proposal in Trump's budget to eliminate public arts funding like for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (in other words, public radio and TV). On one hand, you could argue for letting the market decide, and pay for, all of it. On the other hand, it's a tiny, tiny amount of money relative to the budget overall, and there's not a single developed nation, nor is there a single great power in history, that DIDN'T use public funds for the arts. Is the principle of getting government out of everything worth what's likely to be the impact? (New York Times)
