Possible savior for traditional shopping malls: grocery stores moving into space abandoned by department stores. It's happening all over, with Whole Foods and Sprouts and stores like that taking space in malls, and Wegmans doing the same in a couple of cases. But supermarkets in malls are not a new idea; the malls of the '50s and '60s often had groceries. In fact, I shopped a few times at one mentioned in this article, the Acme in King of Prussia Plaza, which was there into the '80s. Nordstrom is there now. (Philadelphia Inquirer)
