Not That Using Assistance Should Be Considered Shameful
-
Yes, it was insulting and racially insensitive (to put it charitably) for a cashier at a grocery to ask a black woman if she was reaching for an EBT card rather than the debit card she was using. Was that insult enough to file a lawsuit? Because she has, and she's asking for money, although, of course, she says it isn't about the money. How should a case like this be handled? What discipline would be adequate for the clerk: firing, retraining, apologies? And is a cash reward to the plaintiff justified? (Orange County Register)
