But Do They Have Clueless Workers In Orange Vests Who Don't Know Where Anything Is?
-
Here's an elegy for a downtown hardware store giving up the ghost with the owner's retirement and business being what it is. I know this store; I used to live nearby, and it was convenient for when you didn't want to drive all the way to a big box hardware store. Where I live now, we have a small hardware store like that, too, just taken over by young, idealistic owners who are doing a great job of having everything in a small space, but an Orchard Supply Hardware just opened at the top of the hill and there are two Home Depots and a Lowe's within a 15 minute drive. Can they survive? Is there room for Main Street in an online and Out By The Interstate world? (Philadelphia Inquirer)
