Better Late Than Never, Though He Probably Doesn't Care At This Point
-
Imagine being a famous person who dies and nobody notices. Here's the case of Malcolm Toon, whose name you might recall from the Cold War years -- he was a very prominent diplomat and his name was in the news a lot. He was well-known and prominent enough for the New York Times to prepare an obit in advance for him. And they do have an obit for him today. Only thing is, he died eight years ago. It wasn't a secret -- there was an obituary notice in a local paper, and nobody was hiding anything, it's just that nobody told the Times or any other major news organization and his passing went unnoticed. Not that it matters to Malcolm, but dying and nobody noticing is kind of sad. (New York Times)
