We've touched upon this issue before, but it's one that is happening in more than just Silicon Valley, where rents and home prices are out of reach for most people and getting worse: Even mobile home park rents are going through the roof, and that's because -- stop me if you've heard this before, radio people -- the parks are being bought by private equity firms whose primary interest is maximizing their return, usually by jacking up rents until everyone moves out, then redeveloping the land to make more money. You can understand the profit motive, but at what point does it become detrimental to the public? If nobody can afford to live in an area but the very rich, where are the people who work for them supposed to live? (Los Angeles Times)
