You Want The Ultimate In Safety? Don't Travel. Anywhere. Ever.

The looming ban of laptops on all flights from Europe to the U.S. is a bigger deal than you think. As a business traveler who has to tote his Mac along on every flight, the idea that I wouldn't be able to carry it on board is a major impediment to being able to do business overseas (and I expect this'll spread to domestic flights at some point). It also seems weird that they'll let you check the computer in your bags -- that might be even less safe than if they're on board, because if someone uses a remote to detonate a laptop in the cargo hold, the fire would be impossible to put out. And if they ban tablets on board, long flights will be... rough. This will undoubtedly affect business travel, which will affect business, which will hurt everyone. Do you think the threat of terrorism justifies this kind of restriction? (New York Times)
