Consolation - There Were Only A Few Dozen Of Them
-
In another incident that raises the question of whether this is 2017 or 1917, "several dozen" idiots led by alt-Right moron Richard Spencer carried torches and candles to the Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson statues in Charlottesville, chanting "You will not replace us,” “Russia is our friend” and “Blood and soil.” They're apparently upset over attempts to sell and move the Lee statue. You can say the same thing about this as you can about the opposition to removing Confederate monuments in New Orleans: Anyone claiming "it's history" and "removing the statues is trying to erase history" is full of... racism. The statues aren't history, they're celebrations of a dark part of history. They belong in museums, but they don't need to be in places of honor in parks and public squares, because you wouldn't leave a monument to Hitler or Stalin in a park, either. If removing them makes your blood boil -- and I know that for some of you, it does -- you really should consider exactly why you feel that way. (Charlottesville Daily Progress)
