Canada has those plastic five dollar bills -- if you've been there in recent years, or live there (hi, guys!), you know that the plasticky bills are meant to be much harder to counterfeit. Never underestimate the resourcefulness of people who want to cheat the system: Counterfeiters are taking the clear plastic panel and hologram strips off $5 bills and replacing them with tape and foil. What does THAT do? Simple: They can use those pieces to fake higher denomination bills. They figure they can print up polymer $100s and use the $5 panels to make them pass. It's a lot of trouble to go through, but I guess they do it in volume enough to make it worth their while. (CTV News)
