No Place Is Totally Safe. But We Know That Already
-
The sobering thing about the Manchester attack is not just that someone chose to attack a place where he knew children and teens would be, but that there's really little anyone can do about it -- concerts and ballgames are vulnerable no matter how secure the place tries to be. In this case, the explosion wasn't even inside the arena; the crowd exiting the building was the target, and you can't screen everyone standing everywhere. You can easily imagine this happening at any event with a large crowd at any arena or stadium or theater. Which is exactly why they do these things, but it's another example of how our daily lives have been irreparably hurt by terrorism even if the odds any individual will be a victim remain low.
