When People Said We Need A Shakeup In Government, This Wasn't What They Meant
-
The proposed Trump budget cuts off funding for an earthquake early warning system in development, because... well, because who the hell knows. The USGS can't even get new hires to work on the system to be approved by the administration as it is. You would think that a quake warning system would be a priority for any government (Japan has one and it seems to work, and does things like shutting off the train system to avoid quake-related accidents), but I guess when you're desperate to fund tax cuts for the super rich, you cut anything that would benefit everyone. But, then, I live in earthquake country. (Los Angeles Times)
