You Can't Just Throw Away A Living Being Like It's A Used Mattress Or Something
-
There's this small area near here that's a nature preserve, a marshland, maybe four city blocks, right next to the mall. People are dumping their pets there to get rid of them. They just roll up and leave the poor animals to fend for themselves, which, of course, domesticated pets can't do. And the pets end up dead practically overnight, attacked by coyotes or raccoons or just unable to find food. Meanwhile, the city also would like the old ladies -- that's not just a stereotype, it's who's responsible -- who come to the marsh to feed the feral cats to stop that, too, because it attracts squirrels, possums, and skunks, which then attract the coyotes to eat them. People just don't grasp how to deal with nature sometimes. (Daily Breeze, Torrance)
