This Was DEFINITELY Not In The Sales Brochure

Here we go again with the clash of new residents of a gentrifying neighborhood with a pre-existing hazard: In Miami, the Biscayne Boulevard stretch north of downtown used to be very sketchy. Then clubs began to take over the industrial and warehouse space in the neighborhood, lured there by city largesse -- liquor licenses that ran 24/7 -- to try and revive the barren, crime-ridden area. It was successful enough that developers built new, upscale condo towers there. And now the condo dwellers are at war with the club owners over all-night noise. Turns out that insanely loud clubs with rooftop scenes don't mix with people wanting to sleep, especially since the noise gets even LOUDER at about 5:30 am with the influx of clubgoers sent away from South Beach by last call there. But the city has to decide: Is this now a residential area or still an "arts district"? And do the newcomers, who moved there knowing that there were loud clubs in the neighborhood, deserve sympathy?
