Yesterday's Abject Misery Is Today's Marketing Hook
-
It turns out that promoting your hipster restaurant in a gentrifying Brooklyn neighborhood by talking about how you're leaving bullet holes in the walls for their decorative appeal and touting the location as a former illegal gun market is only going to anger the people who actually live in the area and don't think bullet holes are chic. Also, saying you'll be serving wine bottles in paper bags is pretty poor form. And the bullet holes aren't even really bullet holes. So, I wouldn't expect this place to be around too long. You get a lot of stories about opposition to gentrification where the newcomers didn't do anything much wrong other than show up, but in this case, everything was wrong. (New York Daily News)
