That Fine Line Between Pleasure And Pain
-
This article, closing out National Ice Cream Month, gets expert answers to the question "what causes ice cream brain freeze?" It apparently involves a sudden narrowing of blood vessels due to the cold, and the brain misidentifying the location and producing what they call a "referred pain" that you feel in your head before the brain sorts everything out. Not everyone feels it, either, so there's that, and if you drink something warm right away, you're less likely to feel it, so drink something warm. Or slow down. (Minneapolis Star Tribune)
