Just Go When They Don't
-
I dunno, this article decries how Venice has been overrun, and ruined, by tourists who arrive for the day on cruise ships and have crowded out the locals and "good" tourists, and maybe that's so during the Summer high season. All I know is that we were there in the off-season -- November -- and it was wonderful, not at all crowded, everything open, the (admittedly dwindling number of) locals out doing their business, and just a tremendous, unforgettable experience. Plan to be there in November and you'll see why it's a place to go. Go in August and if the tourists don't get to you, the canal sewage will. (New York Times)
