I Call Them 'The Places I Can't Afford To Go Anymore'
-
So, on Tuesday, they announced that the naming rights to the Toronto Maple Leafs and Raptors' arena have been sold to Scotiabank, which will rename the place from Air Canada Centre to Scotiabank Arena, and there were predictable reactions of high dudgeon, but also a lot of... indifference. Which is the real topic: After decades of naming rights deals, do people even care what those places are called anymore? Are people going to call the place ACC or Scotiabank or are they just going to think of it as "the Leafs arena"? For every inarguable naming rights success -- Staples Center, for example, or Xcel Energy Center -- there are many more that have people scratching their heads and not knowing what the current name is (quick, what's the name of the Phoenix Suns' arena?). Is a naming rights deal worth the money? (CP24)
