Maybe They Can Periodically Hose Everyone Down

The San Francisco 49ers' move to Santa Clara a few years back has been widely criticized -- way too far from San Francisco, terrible parking, bad design -- but this Sunday, the pictures of an empty side of the stadium at the beginning of the second half were all over the place, and it wasn't just because the 49ers suck. No, it was because the stands were too hot to sit in, and there's no really good way to fix that -- there are height limitations (it's near the San Jose airport) so you can't put a roof or canopy up there, and those stands face the afternoon sun at just the right (wrong) angle. How hot can you put up with to see an event? I've found that I have zero tolerance for that, so if I can't get a seat in the shade for a day game, I won't go. I'm not the only one -- besides Santa Clara, check the stands on the north side at the zero-shade L.A. Coliseum for a Rams game. (San Francisco Chronicle)
