It's Not Like Anyplace Else On Earth, Really. That's Why
-
The great Carl Hiaasen, a former Keys resident, has a column this week on why some Keys residents stayed put during Irma, risking -- and in some cases losing -- their lives. It's a good explanation of the kind of person who moves to the Keys, the stubbornness and love of the islands and lifestyle and the desire not to abandon your home and business and entire life. Doesn't excuse staying behind when a massive hurricane is about to destroy everything, but it's a start towards understanding who would do that and why. (Miami Herald)
