Maybe 'Sorry To Hear It, Good Luck'
-
A friend or loved one or acquaintance tells you they have been diagnosed with cancer. What's the proper thing to say? This woman's created greeting cards and written a book on the subject, and she says that saying nothing is not an option. But what IS an option? "It's God's plan" isn't a comfort. "Everything happens for a reason" strikes me as blaming the victim. "Get well soon" is meaningless. "You'll beat this" is hollow. What do you say? (BBC)
