Lower Calories, Lower Decadence. Not Sure That's A Good Thing
-
Unilever is a big company, but they're very big in the ice cream category -- they're Ben and Jerry's and Breyer's and several other brands -- and they had a difficult summer. Weather had a lot to do with it, but they also got hit by competition in the U.S. from Halo Top, the one that you can eat a whole pint of and not damage yourself too badly. Which might be the future. Now, I've tried Halo Top, and while it's okay, it's hardly the phenomenon that its fans insist it is -- it's not at all creamy and it has a little bit of an off taste from the sucralose. I wonder if you'd be better off eating less of some more natural but sugar-and-calorie-laden ice cream than the artificial low-cal stuff, but people apparently are increasingly going for the chemicals.
