If It's All The Same To You, I'd Rather Get A Val-Pak In The Mail Than A Peacock
-
We've talked here about how peacocks can be a scourge in your neighborhood -- noisy, road-blocking, pooping, howling annoyances -- but getting rid of them has until now consisted of either physically moving them to another town or the highly inadvisable and cruel move of killing them. Now, there's a third choice: the Peacock Information Center in Minden, Iowa is inviting people to ship their unwanted peacocks to Iowa in boxes. Trick is, you gotta catch them first, and good luck with that. And then get them into the box. Yes, I'm saying you really do have to ship them in boxes, which you can apparently get at a pet store; they're special "bio secure" containers, and don't forget the food. It'll cost about $50-$89 to ship. Fun fact: Hunter S. Thompson used to buy peacocks to roam on his ranch in Colorado (and they'd get lost in the woods), and Hugh Hefner loved peacocks but had a terrible problem with peacock poop at the Mansion that required luring the birds away from the pool with food on a fishing line.
