The Only Business Where People Think You Shouldn't Be Able To Work Where You Want
-
Shohei Ohtani can sign to play for any Major League Baseball team he wants to play for. The two-way star -- he can, and wants to, both pitch and be a position player or DH -- is being courted by many teams, and everyone assumed that the leader in that race would be the Yankees, because they're always the most likely team in bidding wars like this. But Ohtani has informed them that he doesn't want to play in a big market and on the East Coast. Naturally, the New York tabloids think he's chicken, which pretty much explains why he doesn't want to play there. But if you were him, would you want to take your talents to the biggest stage, or avoid the pressure? How much pressure do you think you could handle? And is it "chicken" to choose not to play in a pressure cooker like, oh, say, all of the northeastern U.S. markets where the sports media is relentless? (Los Angeles Times)
